  18. What is needed to upgrade
  19. =========================

  21.   An un-modified, CardFile 4 Master Disk, version 4.05.

  24. How to upgrade your CardFile version 4.05 to version 4.06
  25. =========================================================
  26.  
  27.   1.  Make sure you have made a backup copy of the CardFile Master Disk.
  28.  
  29.   2.  Run the PATCH406.PRG and follow the on-screen prompts.
  30.  
  31.   3.  Once you have finished upgrading your master disk to version 4.06,
  32.       make a backup copy of this newer version.
  33.  
  34.   ** VERY IMPORTANT STEP, READ CAREFULLY **
  35.  
  36.   4.  To install the newer version on your system, replace all copies of
  37.       CARDFILE.PRG or CARDFILE.ACC with the newly upgraded CARDFILE.ACC.
  38.       If you run CardFile as a program (CARDFILE.PRG), you should do the
  39.       following:
  40.  
  41.       a. Remove the old (4.05) CARDFILE.PRG.
  42.       b. Copy CARDFILE.ACC to the location where CARDFILE.PRG used to be.
  43.       c. Rename this new copy of CARDFILE.ACC to CARDFILE.PRG.

  46. If you get an error message
  47. ===========================
  48.  
  49.   If your CardFile 4 Master Disk has been modified in any way (including
  50.   moving files around), the patch program will not be able to perform the
  51.   upgrade.  You will get an error message indicating that this has
  52.   happened.  In this case, you should mail us the disk so that we can
  53.   upgrade it.
  54.  
  55.   To have your disk upgraded by us, you need to:
  56.  
  57.   1.  Send in your original CardFile 4 Master Disk.
  58.   2.  Enclose a note with your name, address, and daytime phone number.
  59.       Please also include a check for $5 + $2 S&H if you did not purchase
  60.       the CardFile patch disk directly from us.

  62.   In return you will receive the upgraded 4.06 Master Disk.

  65. Changes for CardFile 4.06
  66. -------------------------

  68.   New Features
  69.  
  70.   o CardFile has online help, in two formats. CARDFILE.HLP is the Geneva
  71.     Help Viewer format file, and CARDFILE.HYP & CARDFILE.REF are for the
  72.     freeware program ST-Guide. If you press the [Help] key while CardFile
  73.     is running, the appropriate help file viewer is called (if available)
  74.     and a list of keyboard equivalents for the current CardFile window is
  75.     displayed.
  76.  
  77.   o It is now possible to have CardFile come up in the Agenda Menu if there
  78.     are any events scheduled for the current day. Go to the Configuration
  79.     (CFG) Menu, and choose General. The Remind On/Remind Off button now has
  80.     a third possible state, "Agenda".
  81.  
  82.   o Sending a card to an application works under a multitasking AES, even
  83.     if CardFile was not run as a desk accessory. The behavior will change
  84.     based on your computer's version of GEM.
  85.  
  86.     If you are using a Falcon, MultiTOS, or Geneva, CardFile will tell the
  87.     next window in the list to become "topped", then send the card.
  88.     Otherwise, CardFile closes its own window and then sends the card.
  89.  
  90.     If CardFile is not the topmost window, it will just send to the
  91.     top window.
  92.  
  93.   o Under a multitasking AES (like Geneva or MultiTOS), CardFile will only
  94.     display opening credits the first time it is run during a session
  95.     (i.e.:  between rebooting). This is done by installing a cookie
  96.     ('CdFl') in the cookie jar. This feature requires using the JARxxx
  97.     program in the AUTO folder.
  98.  
  99.   o A new feature has been added to printer configuration (CPF) files.
  100.     There is a new section called :TRANSLATION. It provides a translation
  101.     table for all 256 characters when printing. The format is similar to
  102.     the prefix/suffix of any other section with one VERY IMPORTANT
  103.     exception:  the first number is the character number to be translated.
  104.  
  105.     For instance, if you wanted to translate all uppercase A's to lowercase
  106.     k's the line would look like this:

  112.     Every time CardFile finds an uppercase A when it prints, it will become
  113.     a lowercase k.
  114.  
  115.     Since it may be necessary to switch to a different character set and
  116.     back again in order to print certain characters, this feature will
  117.     substitute up to 13 characters for any one character. To specify a
  118.     multiple character sequence just separate the numbers with commas. So
  119.     to change the uppercase A to the word "Hello" the line would look like:

  127.     o [Shift][Help] can be used to obtain info about what CardFile version
  128.       you are running.
  129.     o Under Geneva only, [Shift][Esc] will close CardFile's window. The
  130.       window can be reopened by choosing "CardFile" from the "Desk" menu.

  132.     In the Main menu:
  133.  
  134.     o [Home] will go to the first card.
  135.     o [Shift][Home] will go to the last card.  
  136.     o [Control][-] and [Control][kp -] send the current card's address.
  137.     o [Control][=], [Control][Shift][=], and [Control][kp +] send the
  138.       current card, complete.
  139.     o [Control][P] moves to the Print menu.

  141.     In the Edit and Filter menus:
  142.  
  143.     o [Home] will move to the first field.
  144.     o [Shift][Home] will move to the last field.
  145.     o [Undo] will restore the current line to the way is was before you
  146.       started editing it. After the cursor has left the current line, you
  147.       cannot Undo changes.
  148.     o [Shift][Delete] will clear the current field.
  149.     o [Control][Delete] will delete the next word.
  150.     o [Control][Backspace] will delete the previous word.
  151.     o [Shift][Backspace] will delete to the end of the field.
  152.     o [Control][Left Arrow] will go to the beginning of the previous word.
  153.     o [Control][Right Arrow] will go to the beginning of the next word.
  154.     o The cursor will wrap around in XNote editing. This way, as soon as
  155.       you reach the end of one XNote line, the cursor automatically
  156.       advances to the next line.
  157.     o In the Filter menu, [Control][S] starts Sorting.

  159.     In the Agenda menu:

  161.     o [Control][P] prints the current agenda.
  162.     o [Control][D] goes to Duplicate.

  166.     o [Control][P] prints the current calendar.

  171.   o The file selector always shows the path and name of the current file
  172.     when loading a new printer configuration.

  174.   o When the calendar is in full screen and there is only one appointment,
  175.     CardFile will display "apt" instead of "apts"

  177.   o The AP_TERM message is now supported. When MultiTOS or Geneva sends
  178.     this message, CardFile knows to exit gracefully.

  180.   o Merge will no longer complain about invalid characters when it
  181.     encounters an extended character.

  183.   o The File Menu does not redraw as many times (flicker).
  184.  
  185.   o Appointments will be saved to the current appointment file instead of
  186.     sometimes going to CARDFILE.APT.

  188.   o When there are no cards at all, switching to the XNotes section and
  189.     back in Edit mode will no longer delete any data on the Main page of
  190.     the card.
